Uses of Fine Art Matte Papers

Matte fine art paper prints work best and are often used for photos and artworks that:
- want to convey a more subtle mood
- are vintage in style
- have a lot of pastel colors
- contains a lot of text
- have large swatches of solid or similar colors
- generally have lower contrast
- are black and white
- are required to be printed in large sizes
- must be fingerprint-resistant and easy to handle

Differences between: Regular Smooth Matte, Heavy Textured Matte, and Heavy Smooth Matte

These pertain to smooth archival matte fine art paper (regular smooth matte), cold-press (heavy-textured matte), and hot-press (heavy smooth matte). The weight (regular, heavy) and surface (smooth, textured) of the paper significantly affect the overall look and feel of the paper. Thicker, heavier papers usually offer crisper text and less ink bleed, which makes them a preferred choice for artists. Smooth paper produces a more detailed, well-defined image, whereas textured paper conveys more depth and contrast to the final output. How thick or textured the paper should be depends on what you believe will best showcase your artwork or photo.

While our standard method is to ship small prints up to 8×10 in cardboard flat envelopes, and prints larger than that in mailing tubes, we’re more than happy to accommodate requests for larger fine art paper prints to be shipped flat.
